STOP PARKING METERS $$$ AT LA PEROUSE

KEEP ACCESS TO LA PEROUSE BEACHES, WHARF & NATIONAL PARK AFFORDABLE

Randwick Council propose parking meters for the La Perouse Headland. They could institute other measures to manage peak demand, but they haven’t tried. La Perouse has the highest number of visitors from outside of Randwick.

Most of the Headland is NSW National Parks including the La Perouse Museum. Council have leased this since 2017 but could hand it back to National Parks and save ratepayers $$$millions.  Instead, they fund free entry – effectively around $20 a head (a large number looking for a toilet) & in April 2025 they also agreed a $99 million expansion. Randwick needs to live within its means it doesn’t need to voluntarily cost shift State Government responsibilities to ratepayers and then penalise visitors with parking fees.

Unlike most of Sydney and NSW, Randwick residents are fortunate to live close to State funded cultural institutions in the Sydney CBD. Council doesn’t need to burden ratepayers with the expense of museums that few visit.

Families come to La Perouse for outdoor experiences not museums.

The beaches in Botany Bay belong to Transport for NSW and Transport owns and maintains the wharf.

2 of the 3 beaches are managed by National Parks.

Council receive over $6million in rates from Port Botany which more than covers any expenditure at its Botany Bay beaches.

According to Randwick Council 84% of visitors are outsiders with the top Council areas: Canterbury-Bankstown, Bayside and Liverpool.  Council is promising 1 free beach parking permit per household in Randwick saying that meters will make it easier for them to find a park at a beach when they want it. Effectively, that means pricing visitors out.

THE BEACHES DO NOT BELONG TO RANDWICK.  THIS PROPOSAL IS NOT FAIR
